Group Three: Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapists
This six-month series offers monthly clinical discussion groups for up to ten participants. Group three is for Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapists rather than couple Psychotherapists. This group will be run by Alison Bruce. Alison is a couple, child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapist and will bring a couple relationship perspective to case material. She has taught for NYU, IPTAR, Birkbeck and TR and runs a parent infant group project in London.
Each two-hour session provides a structured, collaborative setting where each participant will have the opportunity to present clinical case material or specific themes from their work for focused group discussion. A core emphasis is placed on the role of countertransference and how therapists are emotionally impacted by clients' unconscious dynamics. Groups will focus on developing ways to process and reflect on these reactions without slipping into collusion. The clinical discussion group approach goes beyond conventional case management by encouraging therapists to explore their emotional responses and the influence these have on their practice, promoting both personal and professional growth.
These clinical discussion groups are a great compliment to traditional supervision, offering therapists essential guidance, skill-building opportunities, a couple perspective on individual work and a reflective space to explore the complex emotional dynamics of their work with a group of colleagues and an experienced facilitator.
We have two other groups running concurrently for Senior Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Couple Psychotherapists led by Stanley Ruszczynski and Psychodynamic Couple Psychotherapists led by Liz Hamlin.

On returning to London in 2015 she worked for five years in a West London CAMHS team and established a parent infant group in the local community, now in its seventh year. She completed further psychoanalytic training in couples work at Tavistock Relationships where she was subsequently a visiting clinician. Alison has taught, supervised and been infant observation lead for Masters programs at New York and Birkbeck Universities as well as co-led work discussion groups on the parental couple for the Association of Child Psychotherapists.
