Join Dr. Lori Brotto, a leading authority in women’s sexual health, for an in-depth workshop exploring innovative, evidence-based treatments for sexual health concerns. As both a Psychologist and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and holding a Canada Research Chair in Women’s Sexual Health, Dr. Brotto offers a unique interdisciplinary perspective that bridges psychological and physiological care.
This workshop focuses on three main areas of concern for clinical practice including low sexual desire, female sexual pain, and male sexual concerns—issues that frequently require an integrated approach. Dr. Brotto will present the latest research and demonstrate how mindfulness, a proven intervention, can be effectively introduced into therapeutic practice particularly as there has been a lack of evidence-based pharmacological approaches that are accessible and feasible for women with low sexual desire. Lori considers both psychological and physiological perspectives.
Psychotherapists across all modalities will benefit from insights into using mindfulness to treat sexual desire and arousal disorders, with practical applications supported by case studies and experiential learning.
This event is skilfully faciliated by Bridget Wilkins and Andrew Davidson co-leads for the Tavistock Relationships Psychosexual Training. They are also both running an in person workshop in Spring 2025, if you would like to join both Dr Brotto's event and the workshop please email us for a 10% fee reduction.
Psychosexual Therapy: A Beginner’s Workshop for Therapists-Relationships
Low sexual desire impacts one-third of women across ages and cultures, and there is a lack of evidence-based pharmacological approaches that are accessible and feasible for this population. Dr Brotto will explore the background of why mindfulness for low desire, sexual interest or arousal disorder is effective and briefly review her preliminary research. Dr Brotto will look at concordance, particularly in women, and a successful case study and application of her work in a clinical context. This session will include a brief mindfulness practice.
There is solid evidence in favour of psychological factors as being involved in the onset and perpetuation of chronic and distressing vulvovaginal pain conditions. This session will focus on the mindfulness-based intervention to support women who suffer from this condition. Dr Brotto will offer case studies demonstrating the efficacy of mindfulness with this client group.
Although there has been substantial research and clinical interest in pharmacological treatments for male sexual dysfunction, there is also some evidence to support psychological approaches. Dr Brotto will discuss how a mindfulness-based approach can be adapted for men with situational erectile dysfunction, along with a couples-based approach to prostate cancer survivors with sexual difficulties and their partners. Dr Brotto will also discuss when to consider mindfulness in the treatment of situational erectile dysfunction and prostate cancer, as well as the challenges and solutions when using mindfulness for male sexual health concerns.
